Once upon a time in Afghanistan

On a recent trip to Afghanistan, British Defense Secretary Liam Fox drew fire for calling it “a broken 13th-century country.” The most common objection was not that he was wrong, but that he was overly blunt. He’s hardly the first Westerner to label Afghanistan as medieval. Former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince recently described the country as inhabited by “barbarians” with “a 1200 A.D. mentality.” Many assume that’s all Afghanistan has ever been — an ungovernable land where chaos is carved into the hills. Given the images people see on TV and the headlines written about Afghanistan over the past three decades of war, many conclude the country never made it out of the Middle Ages.

Russian gymnastics school

These little girls are working so hard and training really seriously that I’m sure that some or even most of them will for sure have a great career as a gymnasts and achieve astonishing sport results. I have to admit that I admire their spirit, and I hope that gymnastics is their true love and passion not just something they do to fulfill their parent’s dreams.

The actions of 30-year Norwegian Eskil Ronningsbakken may shock, admire, horrify or command respect. The best stunt men and daredevils of the world probably wouldn’t dare to what he’s doing on the edge of high cliffs. He probably proved that he has a great balance and can do amazing hand stands, so he decided to make it a bit more exciting by balancing on the edge of a cliff. Really unbelievable!

Unusual house in Vienna

This is one really cool and creatively designed house that is located in Vienna, so if you happen to be there look around and maybe you’ll see it in person. I really like this creative and original circular architecture style of these buildings. It somewhat reminds me of a well.

Have a look at these awesome cool inventions. I really don’t know what went wrong and why didn’t these creative ideas pan out. I mean, who doesn’t need a family bike with a sewing machine or a bed piano? It’s really such a pity that these great ideas didn’t all worked out. My absolute favorites are the car with a shovel for pedestrians that is supposed to reduce the number of victims and a cigarette case for nudists

In honor of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad 284 families in Jakarta, Indonesia , received money for their daughters participating in a mass circumcision. Winner of numerous awards, photographer Stephanie Sinclair visited this ceremony and presents us these moving photos of the scene.

From 10th to 14th of June in the region of Kaluga the legendary open-air festival of free art “Pustie Holmi” (Hollow Hills) took place. This unusual and colorful festival was held for the traditional eighth time. We present you pictures from the festival, which were taken by photo-blogger Ilya Melnikov. Enjoy watching these amazing photos that will take you to a journey of love, music and nature. This festival looks to me like a hippie commune a little bit, but it still seems great nevertheless!

Barack Obama during his student days

Here goes a set of rare black and white photos of present president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, in the 80s’ during his student days. These photos look really great and I have to admit that he looked really attractive and a bit like a rebel in this period! Who would have thought back then that this was the future president of America and the winner of Nobel Prize? Really amazing photos and he changed a lot.
