Barbie celebrated her fiftieth birthday in 2009 and that inspired the French artist, Jocelyne Grivaud to create a project named “Barbie ma Muse” where Jocelyne recreated some of the most famous works of art with Barbie. This beautiful plastic doll with the most unrealistic body measures often gets bad rap, and tattoo Barbie just made it worse. Well, we decided to present her with more class. Here’s how some of the greatest master pieces from the history of art and some works of modern art and pop culture would look like if the muse was Barbie, instead of some ordinary woman.

Disturbingly Glamorous Photos of Kids Smoking

This photo gallery is named “The beauty of an ugly addiction” and is work of Frieke Janssens, advertising photographer that lives and works in Belgium. These shocking and deeply disturbing images present children smoking and are created to raise people’s awareness on the problem of smoking. The artist is probably trying to say that adults who smoke are like children who can’t willfully decide whether or not to partake in this horribly harmful habit. I only hope that the photos below are photoshoped and aren’t really kids who smoke cigarettes, cigarillos, the ones with white and without filters.

He was born in Chicago but currently lives and works out of Atlanta, Georgia, creating incredible works of art with old books and tremendous patience. Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian meticulously exposes various layers to create his mind-blowing artwork. Dettmer has received critical acclaim around the world and his work can be found in countless galleries and publications. Below you will find some examples of his art.

It is impossible to go through the history of art, from the earliest times to modern and contemporary art, and not to take notice of the immense amount of pieces of art that feature that marvelous moment when two universes, two complex series of spiritual and emotional realms connect in the sweetest encounter in the world - the kiss. It is the most powerful, yet fragile touch, the expression of true binding between two people, that surrender in a complete belief. Therefor, there are so many artists that try to capture that magnificent moment. Here goes the list of the most striking and impressive pieces of art, the best kisses in art that are the most successful at passing off the magic of those few celestial flashes.

1. Gustav Klimt

The Kiss (original Der Kuss) was painted by Gustav Klimt, and is probably his most famous work. He began work on it in 1907 and it is the highpoint of his so-called ‘Golden Period’, when he painted a number of works in a similar style. It depicts a couple embracing, their bodies largely hidden by elaborate robes decorated in a style that bears little relation to any historical textile designs.

Weird and Creepy Looking Staircase Covered in Hair

You know how they say all artists are a bit crazy? Well, I have to admit Jessica Wohl brought art craziness to a whole new level. She made an installation featuring a weird and creepy looking staircase completely covered in hair. For this particular work of art she used the stairs in Hot Springs, Arkansas’ abandoned Mountainaire Hotel. The reassuring part is that she didn’t actually use real human hair, just synthetic, but still it doesn’t make the stairs look any less creepy. I can’t even picture myself climbing to the top of this staircase. It’s like being trapped inside of a horror movie.

Molotov Cocktails Flames Turn into Art Means

Russian Street artist t-radya, creates portraits of Russian soldiers through really interesting means. Instead of using ordinary stuff like paint or spray, he makes his art with Molotov cocktails. He pastes bandages on wooden panels and pelts the canvasses with molotov cocktails. As the fires burn out, the charred surfaces that appear create shading and outlines of faces.

Awesome Split Faces of Family Members

Here are some really awesome split family faces made by graphic designer and photographer Ulric Collette. Sometimes the resemblance between parent and child or between siblings is really obvious. The easiest way of comparing people is bringing the images of them side by side, and even better way is combining these two images in one like Collete did in these photos below. It looks a bit freakishly, especially the ones presenting parents and their children, but it also shows how much they resemble to each other.

Not unlike Emma Butler‘s ‘Movie Parts’ project, Simone Massoni’s ‘12 Famous Fairy Tales in Pieces‘ are fun pieces of art that take famous stories and break them down to their components. Plus Massoni has a cute aesthetic that marries well with the content. It is interesting to see where she was inspired by Disney and where she wasn’t. Also I wonder what’s Playtoy Magazine doing in Pinocchio’s story?

The Rug That Really Tied the Room Together, Did It Not?

Ira Cohen: Psychedelic Photography Master

Photographer and poet Ira Cohen spent the early 1960s in Tangier, Morocco, where he lived and worked with William S. Burroughs and Paul Bowles. He is renowned for his Mylar Chamber images, in which he photographed Jimi Hendrix and others in his New York loft apartment. Cohen died last month at the age of 76. Here we take a look at his life’s work.

In the images below you’ll see the work of the Creative Design Studio “s.El” made for various promotional projects. Everything is made entirely from food. It looks really amazing. I can barely cook anything and when it comes to creatively decorating food I’m even worse, but apparently there are really creative and talented people who are willing to do that for us. The only problems is I’m not sure if I would have heart to eat something so beautiful. I mean, it is like you’re eating a real piece of art. You wouldn’t eat Mona Lisa, would you?

Landscapes Made of Female Bodies

I agree there hardly is anything prettier or more beautiful than a female body, but making a landscape out of it sounds a bit too much, don’t you think so? I’m not sure if there is some sort of massage the author is trying to send us, but I must say I like these photos anyhow. They look really amazing and put men in such a funny position, as some tiny beings running around trying to make sense of their lives, trying to answer so many questions, and still failing to figure out the puzzle. I guess this is not entirely the man’s world.

Belgium street artist ROA puts animals back in the urban jungle. He draws black and white bunnies, rats, birds on walls of many European cities (Paris, Warsaw, London…). This mysterious Belgian street artist likes animals. No, let’s put it in a better way – there is an obsession here. Growing up in Ghent, Belgium in the eighties the artist had modest artistic beginnings, with art under bridges and walls. Here are some of his best works now.

Jason Kronenwald, a graduate of Queens University with a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, is an emerging artists based in Toronto, where he produces his Chewing Gum Blond Portraits. Jason smooths chewed gum over plywood, creating realistic skin tones and hair color, composing his palette from the multitude of different flavors and colors chewed together.

Dreamy world of perfections by Z. L. Feng

Have a look at these amazingly transparent watercolor landscapes made by Z. L. Feng, award winning artist. Growing up in Shanghai, Feng began painting at age seven and never stopped, experimenting with different mediums, including pastel, oil, and egg tempera, before choosing his favorite, watercolor. “With watercolor you cannot cover your mistakes, so you must know what you are doing,” he says. He finds inspiration for his lovely landscapes in the countryside of the New River Valley: “Usually I go around – to the river, the forest, the lake – to try and find interesting compositions.”

Great actor and artist, Tony Curtis, well known for many great roles, but maybe best known by his role in the movie “Some like it hot” with Marilyn Monroe, died on September 29th 2010 at age 85 because of a heart failure. Here is a collection of his photos for you to remember him at his best and some of a latter date when he’s already lost some of his good looks which, some say, is responsible for his great popularity during the fifties and sixties. Crazy Animal Portraits

Photographer Evan Kafka decided to make a set of portrait photos in which there will be animals instead of people. And these images below prove that animals too sometimes don’t really feel like standing still and waiting for the artist to find that perfect angle, with perfect light, etc. Their faces are saying: “For how long is this torture going to last?” Animals are really great source of fun and positive energy, because just looking at these pictures makes me feel better. This year saw the expansion of all elements of the festival and the theme was FANTASY.The Carnivale was again be ‘A Festival of Colour’ centred around body art in its many and varied forms. For members of the public, it was nothing short of phenomenal to watch the human canvases take shape during the competitions.

She went through all that trouble of making a beautiful, cute an lovely plush toys only to kill them latter on and then, like the act of killing them wasn’t enough, she had to take a triumphal salvage in form of morbid photos! Very creative banknote pictures

I know art is an expensive thing, but this is really too much. I’ve never seen art like this and a usage of banknotes like this. It reminds me of mosaics but instead of little colored pieces of rocks the artist here is cutting banknotes into small pieces and gluing them together to form a new and creative picture. It seems really colorful and lively, but I don’t thing I would use my money in this way.

Mehmet Akin is doctor/photographer from Turkey, Izmir. He’s 50 years old and as I said before, taking photos isn’t his first vocation, but nevertheless he does it amazingly well. His basic muse and inspiration is his homeland, Turkey with its breathtaking landscapes and its wonderful people. Here you can have a look at some samples of the portraits that he has taken of old people in his country. They are very moving and you can see the mark of time on their faces. It’s almost like every face is telling his own story and testifying that human destiny (kismet) is a thing greater than human himself.

Home made loony art

This reminds me of the movie “Space Jam” when cartoon characters say: “We’re not loony enough?” and then start pooling out all sorts of crazy stuff and cool jokes just to show how insane they are. Well, this artwork is sort of like that. It seems to me like someone has gone a bit mad about something in his own home and decided to turn his craziness into art, because we all know how mental artists are. And you know what? It looks like a great fun. I might try this out!

Guido Mocafico‘s art work gives you chills, but still you can’t deny that it looks quite impressive and beautiful. Besides his serpent work, which is the most popular, this artist also likes clock mechanisms, nature mort, medusa, and other scary animals such as spiders. I’m not sure why is it like that, but it’s like the author is trying to scare us and impress us at the same time. Even his nature mort or the so called still-life, is somewhat spooky. He is presenting images of dead fish, a rabbit that is about to be striped, etc. He makes us watch the real life without any make up. It might be a bit frightening and repulsive at the beginning, but then you get used to it and accept the nature as it is, raw and powerful.

His work is strikingly beautiful and catches attention by the dramatic combination of vivid colors and impressive play of light and shadows. The human body is not simply a substitute for a canvas but it actually involves in creating art and is the most important element in this process. This is amazing collection of beautiful paintings made by Jean Marc Jeniczy. Unfortunately, it can’t be found anything about him on line, but at least you can have a look at his beautiful paintings of nature. Every painting is a true work of art, lovely, quiet landscapes painted in vivid and fresh colors. It’s very moving and inspiring. Reminds me of the spring in the countryside.

Karen has been a creator since childhood, but a portrait class at age 14 unexpectedly propelled her into an art career. Her love for coffee was born in the late Kaldi’s Coffeehouse in New Orleans, where she would go everyday to sketch her fellow French Quarter locals while sipping a black coffee with a dash of nutmeg on top.
