30 Ways the World Used to be Cooler
Posted in Fun by sanela | Tags: black and white movies, humor, irony, nostalgia, old music, past, people, photos, time, today, worldMan! The world used to be so cool, when did all this lameness hit us? I have to admit I didn’t really get all those people that are into nostalgia and collecting antique, listening to old music and watching to old black and white movies from the beginning of the last century, but now I finally get it. The world used to be way cooler than it is now. Just look at these awesome photos in the gallery bellow and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Nobody was concerned with alcohol, tobacco or snuff abuse. People weren’t smudging their kids by being overly protective, like they are today. It was the world of whiskey vending machines and ladies with shotguns and eye-patches. What went wrong? Can we at least bring the pipe smoking baby that resolves mysteries back or the bear boxing?

Now and then
Posted in Misc by sanela | Tags: comparing, fashion, future, Life, past, style, timeHere’s interesting set of images dealing with the “now and then” topic. It is really great watching these photos and comparing what some things used to look like and how they look now. It becomes obvious how much our taste and fashion have changed through time. Some things look much better now, and others actually looked better before. I don’t know if it is just nostalgia or did people really had better taste earlier. If you ask me actors and singers were definitely better before. I even feel bad for comparing Buddie Holy with Lady Gaga and Great Blues with Snoop Dogg, because they are hardly in the same category. But just have a look at this collection and then you be the judge if we fixed or spoiled some things.

Time slowly passes by
Posted in Misc by sanela | Tags: memories, now, old, past, photos, timeYou’ve probably already heard about the “young me/now me” blog where people recreate some of their favorite family photos from their childhood or simply past. Well, here you can find the best and most interesting of these photos. It is really a great idea and this inspired me to try and do this with some of mine old photos. If I do that I’ll add them to this post. It would be for the best if I could gather some of my old friends from childhood, because I haven’t seen them for a long time and this little project would be a great excuse for meeting again.

Once upon a time in Afghanistan
Posted in Life by sanela | Tags: Afghanistan, hope, images, past, societyOn a recent trip to Afghanistan, British Defense Secretary Liam Fox drew fire for calling it “a broken 13th-century country.” The most common objection was not that he was wrong, but that he was overly blunt. He’s hardly the first Westerner to label Afghanistan as medieval. Former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince recently described the country as inhabited by “barbarians” with “a 1200 A.D. mentality.” Many assume that’s all Afghanistan has ever been — an ungovernable land where chaos is carved into the hills. Given the images people see on TV and the headlines written about Afghanistan over the past three decades of war, many conclude the country never made it out of the Middle Ages.
STD propaganda of the 1930 and 1940
Posted in Misc by sanela | Tags: disease, past, posters, propaganda, STDHere are some propaganda posters from the 1930 and 1940 from America that were supposed to raise awareness of the sexually transmitted diseases. At wartime this propaganda was targeted at soldiers. Wartime propaganda of the ’30s and ’40s didn’t stop at the physical enemy on the other side of the trenches. Guilt and scare tactics were common in the battle against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases within the American public at large and in the military in particular.
